Your Annual Visit. Your Foundation for Lifelong Health.
At Glendale Obstetrics and Gynecology, we believe that preventive care is the most powerful tool a woman has when it comes to her long-term health. Your annual well woman exam is not just a routine checkup — it is a dedicated appointment focused entirely on you, your body, and your wellness goals. We have been providing comprehensive well woman care to women across Glendale, Phoenix, Peoria, Avondale, Scottsdale, and Sun City, Arizona since 1999, and we recommend that every woman schedule her annual exam without exception.
What Is a Well Woman Exam?
A well woman exam is a comprehensive annual gynecological visit designed to assess your overall reproductive and hormonal health, screen for potential conditions before symptoms arise, and give you a dedicated space to ask questions and discuss concerns with your provider. It is the foundation of preventive women's healthcare and one of the most important appointments you can keep every year.
What to Expect at Your Visit
Your well woman exam at Glendale OBGYN is thorough, unhurried, and completely personalized to your age, health history, and individual needs. Depending on your age and risk factors, your visit may include a pelvic exam, Pap smear and cervical cancer screening, breast exam, STD screening, blood pressure and weight assessment, review of current medications and vaccinations, hormonal health discussion, contraception counseling, and screening for conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, and osteoporosis. We also take time to discuss your mental health, lifestyle, and any concerns you have been putting off — because this appointment is your time.
Pap Smears & Cervical Cancer Screening
A Pap smear is a simple, quick procedure performed during your well woman exam that collects cells from the cervix to screen for abnormal changes that could indicate cervical cancer or HPV. Current guidelines recommend Pap smears every three years for women ages 21 to 65, or every five years when combined with HPV co-testing.
At Glendale OBGYN, we follow the most current evidence-based screening guidelines and make sure every patient understands their results and what they mean. Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when caught early — and your Pap smear is how we catch it.
Breast Exam
A clinical breast exam performed by your provider is an important component of your annual well woman visit. Our providers carefully evaluate breast tissue for any lumps, changes in texture, or other abnormalities that may warrant further evaluation. We also discuss your personal and family history of breast cancer, review mammogram recommendations based on your age and risk factors, and provide guidance on breast self-examination so you feel empowered to monitor your own health between visits.
Hormonal Health & Menstrual Review
Your well woman exam is the perfect opportunity to discuss anything related to your hormonal health and menstrual cycle. Whether you are experiencing irregular periods, heavy bleeding, painful cramps, symptoms of perimenopause, or concerns about hormone imbalance, your annual visit gives our providers a complete picture of your reproductive health over time. Many conditions are identified and addressed at well woman exams long before they become serious — which is exactly the point.
Who Should Have an Annual Well Woman Exam?
Every woman. We recommend annual well woman exams beginning at age 21, or earlier for young women who are sexually active or have specific health concerns. There is no upper age limit — women in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond benefit enormously from consistent annual gynecological care. If you have not had a well woman exam in more than a year, there is no better time than now to schedule yours.
Same Day & Next Day Appointments May Be Available. We know your time is valuable. Glendale OBGYN offers flexible scheduling including same day and next day appointment availability for well woman exams whenever possible.
