ABNORMAL PAP SMEARS & COLPOSCOPY
An abnormal Pap smear result can feel scary — but it does not mean cancer. Most abnormal results simply indicate minor cell changes that are completely manageable when caught early. At Glendale OBGYN, we provide prompt follow-up evaluation and in-office colposcopy so you get answers quickly, close to home. We serve women across Glendale, Phoenix, Peoria, Avondale, Scottsdale, and Sun City, Arizona.

What Is a Colposcopy?
A colposcopy is a quick, in-office procedure that gives our providers a magnified view of your cervix to identify any areas of concern. It feels similar to a Pap smear, takes about fifteen minutes, and requires no hospital visit. If needed, a small tissue sample may be taken and sent to a lab. Most patients go right back to their normal day afterward.

What Causes an Abnormal Pap Smear?
Most abnormal results are caused by HPV, inflammation, or minor precancerous cell changes called cervical dysplasia. The good news is that when these changes are caught early, they are highly treatable. Our team will explain your results in plain language and walk you through every next step.

Treatment
If your results indicate that treatment is needed, our providers will walk you through your options and recommend the most appropriate next step for your specific situation. All follow-up care is handled with the same compassion and expertise you expect from our team.
